There was a lot of speculation about the future of the US Gulf of Mexico in the lead-up to, and aftermath of, the US Presidential election in November. Some dire scenarios were floated – will lease sales be cancelled for the next four, potentially eight years? Will the approval of new exploration drilling permits stop? Drilling on existing fields? Greenfield development plans?
