Head of Latin America
Welligence Energy Analytics (“Welligence”) is seeking an experienced candidate to lead our Latin America team. The role will combine a wide range of skillsets including management, thought leadership and business development. This role will be instrumental in helping to achieve the growth objectives of Welligence.
RESPONSIBILITES:
- Manage a team of analysts and ensure timely and high-quality delivery of our core offering.
- Write topical notes on key industry issues, events, M&A deals.
- Independently develop and maintain relationships with clients in Latin America.
- Present and relate to a full spectrum of clients, including senior management within relevant organizations.
- Excellent communication, presentation, time-management.
- Ability to meet deadlines through independent work and as part of a team in a fast-paced environment.
- Minimum of 5+ years of Latin America oil and gas experience.
- Excellent written English and Spanish is required. Portuguese a plus.

Sales / Business Development Manager
Welligence Energy Analytics (“Welligence”) is seeking an experienced Sales / Business Development Manager to develop new business and manage relationships with energy companies, investment banks and government entities. The right candidate will have a proven track record of exceeding sales targets, building strong relationships, and gaining credibility from clients as a trusted advisor. This role will be instrumental in helping to achieve the growth objectives of Welligence.
RESPONSIBILITES:
- B2B business development experience within the upstream and midstream energy sectors, particularly with E&P companies, investment banks, and midstream operators.
- Proven track record in prospecting and engaging with non-client accounts, resulting in conversion to new clients.
- Proven track record in securing annual renewals, while growing account sizes.
- Ability to run an entire sales process from prospecting to close of new business.
- Independently develop and maintain relationships with clients targeting Africa, Latin America, and the US GoM regions.
- Ability to present and relate to a full spectrum of clients, including senior management within relevant organizations.
- Excellent communication, presentation, time-management, and negotiation skills.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team in a fast-paced environment.
- Minimum of 5+ years of sales experience.

Data Scientist
Private-equity backed early stage start-up seeks data scientist with experience in R programming and SQL to help pioneer the use of analytics in energy research. You will join the data insights team, whose members have backgrounds in petroleum engineering, statistics, and computer science. Teammates you'll work with include the chief data scientist who holds a Ph.D. in machine learning from Penn and starting in 2021 will be an Assistant Professor at Harvard, and the principal data scientist who holds a masters in data science from Penn.
You must have experience manipulating and cleaning large datasets in R, and pulling data in SQL. You should be comfortable writing well-documented, logical, high quality R code. The most important skill is the ability to learn and familiarize yourself with the existing code base and grasp new ideas and concepts. Top-notch communication skills are essential. You should have a BS, MS, or PhD in Computer Science / Statistics / STEM or the equivalent.
Technical Requirements:
- R (Rshiny, ggplot2, tidyverse, ggplot2, plotly)
- Basic familiarity with concepts in machine learning
- PostgreSQL
- Engineering best practices: git, agile/kanban methodologies, code documentation
- Experience designing relational databases/ERDs (nice to have)
- Experience running ML algorithms in AWS or similar platforms (nice to have)
- Experience working or interning on the data science team at another high performing company (nice to have)

Ruby Developer
Private-equity backed early stage start-up seeks talented Ruby on Rails developer to join our data engineering team. The mission of the company is to pioneer the use of data analytics and machine learning in the legacy energy research sector. You will work under the Lead Developer, a startup veteran with over 10 years of experience, and the Chief Data Scientist, a Harvard professor and co-founder of the company. You will also work closely with our in-house team of data scientists which include petroleum engineers, statisticians, and computer scientists. Expect talented, motivated, and interesting co-workers (welligence.com/company). Salary is competitive based on location, and includes equity compensation.
TECHNICAL REQUIREMENTS:
You must have experience designing and building large and complex (yet maintainable) systems, and you should be able to do so as fast or faster than most competent people think possible. You should be willing to work extremely hard when required, and be seeking a culture of accountability. You should have a BS, MS, or PhD in Computer Science or the equivalent experience working at other companies.
Concrete Skills include in order of importance:
- Ruby on Rails (RoR). Familiarity with ruby libraries for scraping & parsing data, and database sharding are a plus (e.g. nokigri, octopus/rails 6) and best practices (test-driven development rpsec, rubocop). Databases: PostgreSQL
- Experience and demonstrated ability working with small agile teams and translating business objectives into technical specifications.
