Gabon M&A | Maurel & Prom becomes Gabon’s top onshore producer with Assala Energy acquisition

On 15 August 2023, Maurel & Prom (M&P) announced the acquisition of Carlyle’s entire holdings in Gabonese onshore player, Assala Energy, for US$730 million. The acquisition includes Assala Energy’s subsidiaries, Assala Upstream Gabon (100%) and Assala Gabon (75%). As part of the deal, Assala’s existing US$600 million reserve-based lending facility will be rolled over to M&P’s balance sheet at deal completion. This puts the entire deal value at circa US$1.33 billion.
