The Beetaloo Basin’s vast onshore shale gas resources offer a unique opportunity to address southeastern Australia’s looming LNG import needs and also revitalise the country’s LNG exports. 2024 prices in both the southeast Australian contracted domestic gas market, over US$8/MMbtu, and the north Asian LNG spot market, ~US$12/MMbtu, offer clear incentives for developing new supply, as the country’s legacy producing assets decline.
